Biography [edit | edit the code]
Childhood [edit | edit the code]
Rivaldo was born on 19 April 1972 in Paulista Garden, a district in the neighborhood of Recife, Pernambuco State, located in the northeast of the country, thousands of kilometers from the place of predestination of large Brazilian football legends. Coming from a family immersed in the most absolute poverty, it is the third child of the family consisting of two brothers and Ricardo Rinaldo and two sisters Cristiana and Soraya. He is the Son of Romildo and Marlucia.

Rivaldo grew up in the squalid slum of Beberibe. To survive, he tries to make some money by selling to the beach bracelets, souvenirs, sweets or going to the market to charge people spending. He walked barefoot or with foot surrounded in pieces of a slipper. Malnutrition caused him to lose all his teeth. Today, they are replaced by artificial. Rivaldo does not like to talk about all this, not that he is ashamed of his teeth or his origins, but because of too cruel memories, "If you have not lived there, and has not lived what I lived there, then you will never understand. "

His rare happy moments were when he played football. By playing he forgot hunger. On the beach, he imagined being Zico. This is where his legs are developed, strong and arched. Rivaldo loves football and strikes like a deaf man against a wall will eventually collapse on him. We will ask him sixteen stitches. When he began playing in clubs, he walks 15 kilometers to go train and 15 more to return. The young Rivaldo unfortunately not had enough money to take the bus. In fact the first time he puts on cleats, he's already 16 years.

Rivaldo's father had great faith in the abilities of his son. He and his father was very close: "He kept telling us that one of the three brothers is a professional day." In Brazil, a footballer first division is, for most, the only way to escape poverty. Romildo And, like so many other fathers and parents believed in that.

The young Rivaldo waited for his father all night. The next morning, the radio of the city contacted the misfortune to the family. His bowlegged slumped. Rivaldo has trouble digesting the drama and even wants to stop football. The obstinacy of his mother pushes him to replay soccer few weeks after his father's funeral. "You must not give up. You have to realize the dream of your father" begged his mother. Fortunately Rivaldo listened. "When I was a child, he never separated from me in the street to the beach. And today I play in his memory."

His difficult childhood almost ruined the dream of Rivaldo, the one day be a pro player. Indeed, it was insufficient because malnourished physics, his musculature was underdeveloped for its size which made him a player below the average. Despite this unfavorable physical, he went alone bend the fate of tens of unlikely encounters multiplying arabesques drawn on the sandy bay of Arruda. He was nicknamed "Garroto" the stunner in relation to its ability to deal the fatal blow to a match.

It is a miracle of life and football. His life was not easy, but it has remained simple and humble. Rivaldo knows what he needs to live. Besides it has always participated in solidarity actions to help the poor. "Many people live in poverty and by my name and my position, I have to reach out."
